Hinton Poole enlisted on 16 May 1861 at age 27 in Raleigh, NC.  He was wounded in the forehead and captured at Gettysburg on 2 or 3 July 1863 (or captured at South Mountain on 5 July 1863).  He was confined at Fort McHenry in Baltimore, MD and then Ft. Delaware, Delaware before being transferred to Point Lookout, MD.  He died as a Prisoner of War at Point Lookout of chronic diarrhea.  Private Poole was married to Elizabeth Poole and his parents were Ransom Poole and Sallie Lassiter.  He had two  brothers, Langdon Poole, and  Quinton R. Poole, that died in the Civil War as well as two brother-in-laws, Bryant Harrison and John W. Bunch.
