Private David Bryant Harrison enlisted at age 26 on 15 July 1862 into company I, 3rd North Carolina Infantry.  When his unit left Frederick, Maryland on 10 September 1862, he was left behind sick and was captured two days later on the 12th.   He stayed in the Union hospital at Frederick until transferred to Fort Delaware on 18 September.  On the 2nd of October 1862, Prisoners of War were transported to Aikens Landing in Virginia for exchanged.  These POWs were ‘declared exchanged’ on 10 November at Aikens Landing, but David has already been admitted on 24 October to the Confederate Winder Hospital in Richmond with rubeola (small pox).  After being transferred to the Small Pox hospital on 9 December, he died there on 15 February 1863.   David was the son of Willie Harrison and Mahala Cooke and husband to Jane Ellen Poole.
