Private James A. Stephens/Stevens enlisted at Holly Springs at age 22 on 29 May 1861.  Most of 1861 he was absent while sick.  He returned to his unit and was present until captured at New Bern on 14 March 1862 and paroled at a later date.  James was captured at Bristow Station on 14 October 1863 and the next day admitted to the Old Capitol Prison in Washington, DC.  On 27 October, he was transported to Point Lookout where he died in the Small Pox hospital on either 25 or 27 December 1864.  Private Stephens was the son of Paschal & Elizabeth Stephens/Stevens.
